PVCSec EP 19: Security Awareness w/ Amanda Berlin

Dear Friends,

It’s Security Awareness week on the PVC Security Podcast. Ed is M.I.A. this week, likely wandering aimlessly somewhere undisclosed. Undeterred, Paul’s delighted by this week’s guest cohost – InfoSystir, the infamous Amanda Berlin.

Paul and Amanda, with Senior Baseball Correspondent Tim DeBlock, discuss Security Awareness programs and job changes and security in the popular media. We also talk about security conferences and specifically CircleCityCon ’15.

Paul reflects on the Fukushima earthquake + tsunami + nuclear disaster anniversary and the lessons we security professionals learned. Or he hopes we learned them.

We don’t know but can only hope that your health coverage will reimburse you for the expenses related to Paul singing solo this week. If you found it less awful than the usual duet, then please enjoy your good luck.

Remember, this isn’t your typical InfoSec podcast. This also isn’t your typical management and leadership podcast. This is the PVC Security Podcast.

PVCSec Episode 3: Just Update It

The next episode of the PCVSec podcast, the third in a collector’s series, is upon you!

Paul’s and Ed’s travel made getting the podcast posted this week later than normal. We’re working on it.

This episode talks to a variety of topics such as:

  • Following InfoSec (or any) fads may be hazardous to your health
  • Why “Just Update It” (or upgrade it) isn’t a security strategy without context
  • The value of lifecycle management and budget planning, and why you should care
  • Comments and quick hits

Remember, this isn’t your typical InfoSec podcast. This isn’t your typical management or business podcast either. It is the PVCSec podcast.

PVCSec Episode 2: And So It Begins

The next episode of the PCVSec podcast, the second in a collector’s series, is upon you!

This episode, recorded first yet posted second, speaks in rambling terms about what Ed and Paul expect from the podcast and rant on a variety of topics such as:

  • Unsophisticated social engineering attacks rearing their ugly heads again
  • Some things that Ed hates
  • Thoughts on HealthCare.gov and overblowing news stories
  • Ideas to help make your meetings suck less
  • The value of asking “stupid” questions

Since this was the first go at recording and it was done weeks before the second episode, the more polished 4 Pillars of Leadership was released first. This one is the proof of concept. Ed and Paul considered not releasing it but Tim swayed the decision.
